GTL has participated as a major partner in the "Next-Generation Advanced Satellite Global Special Zone" agreement, an initiative led by Gyeongsangnam-do Province to build a robust regional satellite industry ecosystem.

At the heart of this agreement is the establishment of a satellite ground station in Jinju to receive and control satellite data. This facility will serve as the foundation for an integrated infrastructure supporting the entire satellite lifecycle—from design and manufacturing to testing and validation. Gyeongsangnam-do aims to enhance competitiveness in satellite data utilization and services through this ground station. Furthermore, in alignment with the policies of the Korea Aerospace Administration (KASA), the province plans to foster Jinju as a pivotal industrial hub encompassing both satellite manufacturing and operations.

Under the agreement, Gyeongsang National University (GNU) will provide the site for the ground station on its campus and oversee construction, with plans to ensure sustainable operations through self-secured funding. Once completed, the ground station will handle public control functions and be open to the private sector. It is set to become an aerospace landmark integrated with the local community, supporting technology validation for space companies and offering various educational programs.

"This is a historic starting point where Gyeongsangnam-do joins hands with key partners to open the global aerospace era," said Governor Park Wan-soo. "By building this ground station infrastructure, we will create an environment where our companies can focus entirely on technology validation and business model creation without regulatory barriers."

Meanwhile, Gyeongsangnam-do is also accelerating the establishment of the 'Western Free Economic Zone Authority' to further support the growth of the aerospace industry. As a first step, the province plans to apply for Free Economic Zone status for a 4.11 ㎢ area spanning Jinju and Sacheon, with a total project budget of approximately 1 trillion KRW.

The province has already built a consensus on this new designation with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) and related municipalities, and plans to clarify the legal grounds for the new zone through amendments to the Free Economic Zone Act.
